Treated with wavefront lasik 3 weeks ago by the excellent Mr Pillai in Harley Street. What can I say? Exceeded all my expectations - from -7.00 in both eyes with a good degree of astigmatism and night-time myopia to 20/20 vision (and improved night vision!). Vision has settled remarkably quickly and the consultation, treatment and aftercare have been thorough. I had surgery five weeks ago for vision of -3.5 in each eye . I had worn gas permable contact lenses for more than 20 yrs and only wish this excellent treatment had been available sooner. I had been considering lasik for several years but never really did anything about it. I booked a consultation at Ultralase, however I did not feel very comfortable with talking to someone different each time and not seeing the surgeon until the day of the operation. I had Lasik nearly two years ago in London with Mr Pillai. I was -2.50 in both eyes and needed to wear contact lenses all the time. Even though contacts became a way of life, it was inconvenient to have to take them out at night and put them back in, in the morning! I was very nervous before having it done, but felt totally confident with Mr Pillai as he is such an experienced and confident surgeon. The whole procedure was very quick and pain free from start to finish (the only thing I noticed was some pressure on my eyes.) I was around -9 in both eyes, so I thought it was unlikely that they could do anything. I'd been wearing glasses since I was 7 and never been able to get used to lenses. I always hated glasses - apart from the vanity aspect(!), I found sport a real problem and had practically given up swimming because I hated not being able to see properly in the pool. As an optometrist I am probably more discerning about my eyesight than others, so when my best friend Sam (also an optom.) referred me to Mr Pillai I was a little apprehensive. However, as Sam noted she had seen much of Mr Pillai's work and it was always spot on. She was right - almost 2 weeks after my surgery (originally -2.75 R&L) I can see 6/4 unaided. I've considered eye laser surgery for 10-15 years, my vision being -7.75 in both eyes. I have always had reservations regarding eye laser surgery and was confused by the amount of laser clinics stating that they were better than the next, and just put the whole thing to the back of my mind. I had wavefront lasik surgery with Mr Pillai at AVC a week ago, and I am absolutely delighted with the results so far. My eyes were -7 and -6.5, and I'd worn glasses since I was 7 and contacts since I was 13. I'd always worn my contacts 15 hours a day 365 days a year, and had been warned repeatedly by optometerists that I needed to cut down my lense wear to avoid damaging my eyes, but as someone who felt really uncomfortable in glasses it was easier said than done! For the record I am the bosses wife. I’ve thought about having my eyes ‘done’ long before my husband joined Advance VisionCare and I imagine for many of the usual reasons. Nick, originally an optician, had fitted me with a variety of contact lenses over the years, but my tolerance to my gas permeable lenses had declined and I didn’t want to go back to glasses full time. Had surgery on 6/8 - everything went really well. Initial Consultion - Took place at Eyesite (Reading). Each test done was explained to me in depth. Also met Angela (Senior Cousellor at AVC), she explained the surgerical procedure and ALL the risks involved. Suitability Consultation - Took place at AVC (London). Dr Jenkins did further tests, and explained everything. She made me feel very comfortable about the surgery. Also met the surgeon - Mr Pillai. I am really over the moon with the eye-surgary that I had. All of the staff Mr Pillai, and Dr Regina were really friendly and helpful and made me feel very relaxed. The operation it's self was totally painless and very fast, and I had total confidance in the staff. I had the operation at 4pm and was at home by 6pm, Initially there was a bit of pain and discomfort. But after taking a pain killer and relaxing in a room for a couple of hours I was feeling fine. I even saw a bit of a film that evening, that had sub titles and had no trouble with reading them,"amazing". I would recommend this surgary to anyone with out hesitation.  More...

I had a consultation at Boots (Reading) today, and have arranged an appointment for the treatment on Friday (8th Aug). I also had an initial consultation with Advance VisionCare (London) at my local optician - Eyesite, a couple of days ago. I am now quite confused as whom to go with: Boots - I found that they were very general about things, didn't explain what the test were I was having done, very little detail was given, was passed to about 4 different members of staff. even though I told them that I had read up on the subject, I still feel that they should have explained things further. My prescription was R-5.5, L-5.0. I had my lasik treatment on 24 July 03. During the procedure, I felt no pain at all, only slight discomfort when the lid guard and suction ring was placed on my eye. On my way home after the treatment, I could see clearly, just a bit hazy. After the check-up the next day, I could drive home. A week later, my eyes achieved 20/20 vision. I am so happy I can see clearly now, except I need my reading glasses for reading because of my age. As this is the only eye surgery I have ever had, from the initial consultation through to post op check ups the service and treatment have been beyond my wildest dreams. I had been wearing glasses and lenses since the age of 6 I'm now almost 38 and after having all the annoying things that go with glasses and lenses i.e. wet glasses in the rain ,steamed glasses tired and sore eyes after wearing lenses all day, all of these things I no longer have to suffer. Fantastic - like a miracle!! No pain and hardly any discomfort. I used plenty of comlimentary eye drops for lubrication, and sunglasses as eyes were slightly sensitive to the sun. Vision improved every day throughout the first week and finally stabilised at better than 20/20. Couldn't see this well with my glasses or contact lenses.  More...

I have had poor vision ( almost -7 and astigmatism in both eyes ) since I was small, and have been unable to find contact lenses which I can wear successfully, so I was very interested to hear about this clinic from my optician. I found the staff very professional, and also very friendly and willing to explain everything in great detail. In my case one eye could not be fully corrected due to the thickness of the cornea, but the other was able to be fully corrected. The treatment itself was fine, I was given comprehensive instructions for after care, and an emergency 24 hour number for any problems.
