Having contacted Moorfields first for a quote and being told via voicemail ( as nobody was ever available to answer the my calls) that it would cost between £3800 - £4800, I contacted Advance vision and i am so happy i did. I had been considering laser eye correction for many years. I was advised to wait for my prescription to stabilise and to be around the age of 25. I had my laser surgery two days ago and already one eye is better than it was with glasses! The other eye should catch up soon and hopefully i should be able to read two more lines on the chart than i ever could before! Advance Visioncare Saved My Sight! Having always been very short-sighted (-9.00DS both eyes), I decided to have laser eye correction at Advance Visioncare (AVC). My surgery went very well and although I did require some fine tuning afterwards to achieve my maximum correction, I was very happy with the final result. I found the whole experience very professional especially on the day of treatment brilliant planning to have a big waiting room in which both patients waiting to have surgery and also patients who had just had surgerey were all sitting together. I had my assessment for my contact lens implants with Mr Pillai in May 2008. The procedure was very thorough and I had all confidence in Mr Pillai and the team. All went extremely well (procedure took place on 26/7/08), quite nervous on day but once it starts you realise it is just uncomfortable rather than painful and the thought is far worse than the reality. I reached driving standard the following day and was reading newspapers comfortably. I'm 43 so was warned that I may need reading glasses on completion however so far this has not been necessary. The standard of care was extremely high and at all times I felt I was in the hands of a very professional team. I have wanted to write everyday since my surgery as it has been a journey of unbelievable joy, but I thought it would wait until my two week check and my first night out with my husband. I had severe short sight in my right eye(-8.95) and moderate in my left(-6.95) as well as astigmatism, sloping corneas and big pupils so was probably quite a complex case! I have has laser in my left eye and an implant contact lens in the right. 1 month on my tested vision is better than the best corrected vision I got with glasses and contact lenses. I only have slight blurriness and less vision out of the corners of my eyes which I am told with time will improve as my eyes heal. I first contacted Advance VisionCare regarding LASER surgery, as one of my relatives had their eyes done with Mr Pillai, and had an excellent result. My prescription was RE -10, LE -14.5 with a lot of astigmatism. Mr Pillai advised me, that I was not suitable for Laser surgery, as my prescription was out of the range, nor was I suitable for Implantable Contact Lens! My prescription was +8 in both eyes with moderate astigmatism. I have been looking for laser surgery desperately to get rid of my glasses, as I enjoy riding my bike, and other outdoor sports. I went to other centres for quotes. This is the only clinic I went to where I meet the Surgeon, who also checked my eyes. My prescription was +8 in both eyes with moderate astigmatism. I have been looking for laser surgery desperately to get rid of my glasses, as I enjoy riding my bike, and other outdoor sports. The last couple of years, my research show that I was not suitable for laser surgery, and there were no other alternatives given to me by other clinics. When I visited Advance VisionCare, I was disappointed to learn that I was not suitable for Laser Surgery, because of my high prescription. A well known clinic offered me Laser Surgery after an initial consultation of 45 mins but I was not satisfied with the service I received. I then went to Advance VisionCare on a colleague's recommendation. For 25 years I have had to wear glasses and contact lenses which trivial as it may sound became quite a chor. When I researched into lazer eye surgery my conclusion was that out of 5 or 6 clinics that AVC were by far the most impressive and more importantly, Dr Pillai and his team really inspired confidence that the procedure would be a success. Have had my consultation at this surgery - everything is done extremely thoroughly. There are up to three layers of checking first with the opthalmic consultant, then with Dr Pillai then with another surgeon. It was explained that Laser surgery wouldn't be appropriate so now I have to make my mind up about IOL surgery. The only thing that bothers me is the gap between one eye being operated on then the other (two weeks). I am investigating having a clear lens in my glasses for this short period. It took me many years to come up with the nerve to go through the procedure – why did I wait. I was told I may experience a feeling of grit in my eye and dryness-I felt no grittiness and dryness. All the staff and Mr Pillai made me so at ease even though I could not write the date on the form when I arrived- but soon fully at ease especially when the young lady before me came out smiling and over the moon. I had LASEK at AVC and I was ready for the procedure to be slightly painful (compared to Lasik), HOWEVER THERE WAS VERY MINIMUM PAIN INVOLVED. I HAVE PERFECT EYE SIGHTS NOW AND I ALMOST CANNOT REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS LIKE WHEN I HAD TO STRUGGLE WITH CONTACT LENSES/GLASSES.  More...
