I had Wavefront Guided Lasik in May 2002. It cost £2500. My pre-op prescription was -1.75 and -1.50 with a fair bit of astigmatism. The operation seemed to go smoothly and the initial results were very good. I’m not sure my vision was quite as good as it was with glasses but it was very good and the optometrist assured me it was 20/20. All good and off I went very happy.
About 10 months later I started getting headaches and noticed my vision didn't seem as sharp in fading light. I was also getting sore eyes. I rang Accuvision who agreed to see me. At the consultation the optometrist tested my eyes and insisted that my eyes were still 20/20. They clearly weren't. He said everything was healthy and I just had slightly dry eyes. He gave me some eye drops for my dry eyes and sent me on my way. During a further phone call they told me I was now "discharged". That's fair enough.
But I had clearly regressed and had continued to do so. The headaches got worse and my eyes were still dry and sore. At my last eye test my prescription was -0.75 and -1.00 with a small amount of astigmatism. I certainly can’t drive at night with this prescription. I was also told that I have mild blepharitis which is often linked with dry eyes. More significantly they told me the right flap is a little jagged or swollen. This means that I can’t correct my sight properly with contact lenses.
So I’m stuck with a poor visual outcome and I’m now unable to wear contact lenses at all.
Now of course this is just one persons story. This site is full of many glowing recommendations for Accuvision. However, most people post their reviews within a few days/weeks/months.
How many people will regress? In the US many clinics include re-treatment in the price as most people will regress to some extent. At Accuvision if you need enhancement you will need to pay again.
My optometrist says he is seeing more and more people who have regressed to the extent that they need to do something about it. And of course the effects of the laser on the eye can often mean that that these people will never regain the perfect vision they had with glasses before surgery.
So be careful. Technology is progressing at such a rate that waiting another
12 months may make a difference.
I am unhappy with the overall service I received at Accuvision.
