It's now nearly three months since I had bilateral custom wavefront lasik at Accuvision in Fulham and I thought I'd leave a few comments about the experience.
First of all the consultation was really thorough and there was plenty of time to ask questions (which were realistically answered - this is surgery and no-one can guarantee the outcome - if they do I would see someone else...). After the consultation I was given a list of upcoming surgery dates and the cost of the operation - no salesmanship - just information which was very much appreciated.
Having found out that I was suitable and that a good outcome was likely (which confirmed what I had read on this site and others) I decided to go ahead and booked the surgery the following week. My surgeon was Brett Halliday and given the way things went I can strongly recommend him. The most surprising thing was how quickly everything was over - I didn't experience any discomfort during the operation - it's just surreal to watch the operation unfold - in less than ten minutes I was in the waiting room, half an hour later I had my post-operative checks and then I went to the hotel. At this stage everything was looking a little milky but by the evening (after a few hours with my eyes closed) my distance vision was good. The following morning I went back for the check-up and was amazed how well I could see as I walked back to the clinic - everything was very clear.
I ended up using the eye drops for the first couple of weeks and then stopped as there was no more need. Maybe I was lucky (I certainly think so), but I have not had any real problems - I see some halo's around lights at night but it isn't that much of an issue and I hope it will continue to get better - if not it is a small price to pay. My vision has gone from around minus 5 in each eye to 0 and 0.25 (which is perfect from my point of view) and I can comfortably read the 20/15 line on the eye chart (1 line better than 20/20 vision).
So I am a very satisfied patient/customer, the staff were friendly, open and professional, there was no hard sell and the proceedure has given me the chance to live without glasses or contact lenses for the first time in twenty years (the last fifteen of which I had worn soft contact lenses. If you are thinking of having the surgery I would highly recommend you go for a consultation at Accuvision - this seems to be the common conclusion of the posters here.
