I had laser eye surgery on April 20th 2005. Let me admit at the outset that I am one of life's worriers. I reasearched Laser eye surgery for over two years following an initial consultation with Ultralase in London, and I mean RESEARCHED!! I was in two minds - I wanted it done, but didn't really think I could trust anyone to slice into my eyes. When I met Nick Dash at Accuvision, Solihull I was incredibly impressed by his obvious knowledge, experience and genuine continued interest in Laser surgery. He very thoroughly answered all of my questions (I was there for a LONG time) and showed me the operating room which helped remove some of the mystery/fear of the unknown. I left with his email address for further questions. I also saw the CV of the surgeon who would be performing the surgery - Dr. Jyotin Pandit.
I have large pupils and had learnt early on that I should have wavefront treatment and boy am I glad I did. I was offered ordinary laser eye surgery for much cheaper (£1200) by a company who said my pupils weren't large by their standards. As many others have said on this site money shouldn't really come into this decision. I willingly (and this is someone who is generally financially cautious!) paid £2000 to Accuvision. I wasn't buying a pair of shoes. I didn't want to be treated with archaic technology, wanted the best possible outcome and professional, intelligent and sensitive staff to treat me.
Before I decided to go ahead with the surgery I read a sensible review from a guy on this site who like me was delighted with his new perfect vision. However, he added with it a word of caution that you cannot guarantee anything and that is exactly how I feel now.
I would hate for someone to read this review and solely on the basis of my experience be influenced to decide to have it done. See, I told you I was one of life's worriers!:) In my case I looked at the statistics on the web of what can go wrong and had to choose that I wanted to give it a try (I've been blessed with a very smart mentor-type of father who encouraged me by saying "Hey, with those odds I'd bet the farm!). Accuvision seemed good and indeed they are. Links that I particularly remember as useful were www.nurseowens.clara.net/lasik_diary.htm for a description of a personal experience of surgery and for statistics and risk http://www.londonvisionclinic.com/process_risks.html .
My prescription before was -2.75 & -3.75 with significant astigmatism. I now have almost 200% vision! Good luck.
