I had my treatment at Accuvision on 21st July (done by Mr Pandit), to correct a prescription of around -4.0 in both eyes, with some slight astigmatism. I initially had my consultation with Joan Moore about three weeks previous to the treatment. As well as putting up with my endless stream of questions, they were careful to explain the risks to me, and tell me what outcome I should realistically expect. My experience of them so far is that they have been very professional.

If you want to go ahead with the treatment you MUST understand the risks involved, as you'll be expected to sign a consent form which virtually waives any legal implications on Accuvision's part if it goes wrong.

As for the treatment itself, it wasn't painful, but it was uncomfortable. I just could not get it out of my mind that the surgeon was about to cut a flap in the front of my eye! However, the operation was completed, and Mr Pandit said it went perfectly. I was sent out into the waiting room, checked again about half an hour after the treatment to make sure the flap was in place, and then went off to the hotel to rest. I didn't experience any major discomfort, just a feeling of "grittyness" in the eye for a little while, and I applied the drops I'd been given like clockwork.

I turned up the next day for my follow-up, and I was disappointed to say the least - my vision was extremely blurry, I had a lot of halos/glare from lights, and when I took an eye test I barely made driving standard (which I think is 20/40). I was even more upset when I spoke to the chap who got treated immediately before me, and he said his vision was perfect from the moment he walked out of the operation! I was reassured by the Accuvision that the treatment was successful and the flap was healing nicely, and that things would improve over the week. I still was very upset though!

The next morning though, things were very different - vision was much improved, although still blurry and lots of glare around lights. As the week has progressed, my vision has steadily got better and better. I still have glare around lights - but this is definitely improving - but at the moment according to my makeshift eyechart I can see better than I could with my glasses.

I had a follow-up one week after the surgery, and my left eye showed 20/20, with my right eye slightly worse. I also was experiencing headaches which I think was due to my right eye "straining" to compensate. Accuvision again said not to worry, everything was healing OK, and then sent me away to return in about a month. Again, my vision continued to improve (and fluctuate!) on a daily basis.

I've just been for another follow-up today, and am happy to say that I now can see the 20/15 line on the chart! Result! :-) Both eyes are roughly the same strength, and I no longer get any headaches. I still get halos and starbursts around bright lights, but this does seem to be getting better. There is a slight issue with the left eye - I have some small "epicells" (don't ask me!) on the eye, and it may involve lifting the flap again to get rid of them. I'll know a bit more at the next appointment.

Finally, to say again - you MUST understand the risks before you proceed - it can go wrong, and it is your eyesight after all. If you decide to go for it, you must also be very patient - some people get fast results, others like me take a bit longer to heal. Your eyesight can fluctuate on a daily basis for the first few months as mine has.
Other than that though, if you really are considering eye surgery you could do far worse that go to Accuvision - you only have to read the feedback on this site to know that they are one of the best. Good luck!
