LASIK surgery, bah! TransEPI, luxury! I had the 'full fat' lens replacement surgery via Accuvision instead. That's where you have then lenses inside your eye replaced, under local anaesthetic, with new lenses that correct your vision. It's essentially the same as a cataract operation. Why this option? I'm in my early 40's and I've been short sighted since I was seven (-6.5 and -4.75) and was starting to get long sighted as well. My visit to accuvision was my first step to see if anyone could help with my very poor vision that I have suffered all my life from birth. My Vision was a -28 in my left eye and a -16 in my right eye which was worse than expected when examined at accuvision in Parsons Green. I had both eyes treated on 15 Oct 08, original prescription was both -2.75, very mild astigmatism. My eyesight is now 6/4.5 in left eye, and 6/6 in right. I had previously worn Ortho-K lens (lens worn overnight that correct your vision when removed in the morning), but wanted something more permanent.Thus, I had high expectations, which were mostly met. Had my surgery last month and now have 20/20 vision. The procedure itself is very quick and pain free, of course the vision is 'foggy' for a while but still better than without my contact lenses or glasses. Previously I went to Optimax and they quoted me for over £3000 for Wavefront Intralase Lasik!! It put me off as my friends with serious astigmatism and really bad prescription paid the same. I am 62 and drive a taxi. I used to wear contact lens and use reading glasses. Now I don't wear glasses. Accuvision recommended different corrections to each eye to give me the bi-focal effect. I had my surgery on 27th October at about 4pm. My initial consultation had been held in Fulham some 6 weeks earlier. The consultation was fantastic and very professional and caring. I had treatment about 3 years ago. I was about -2.5 in each eye. The clinic is very modern and looks very smart. The staff are very professional and polite. The after-care was also very good. My eyes were very dry for the first few days and I used eye drops. The need for drops reduced and after a month or so I didn't need to use anything. My eye sight is perfect 20/15 I think which I believe is better than 20/20. Being told by Optical Express I was unsuitable for laser eye surgery due to my high 4+ prescription coupled with astigmatisms I was advised to seek intraocular lenses from their Harley St consultant costing around £4.5k! I had trans-epithelial surgery about 3 weeks and was told tolday that my sight is better than 20:20 vision! I would recommend it without a doubt. I had the trans-epithelial surgery due to a thin cornea and this treatment was suggested as a safer option. Initially I was given a very detailed and extensive eye examination to decide the best treatment for me. My prescription being +6 and my age over 45 it was decided that the best treatment would be Clear lens Exchange (CLE), where the natural crystalline lens inside the eye has been replaced with an interocular implant. My surgery has been a great success and I can now see better than I was able to with contact lenses or glasses before the surgery. 7 days ago I was -4.75 with astigmatism in both eyes and large pupils. Today I have gone back for my one week check up to be told that I have no prescription whatsoever and have better than 20:20 vision. I choose to have laser eye surgery after much debating and research my consultation with Accuvision in Solihull was the third that I had. I liked the fact that the wavefront technology was offered as standard and the lesser treatment offered by other companies was not an option. After the initial consultation at Solihull (on 17th July '08) I was in hurry to have the surgery done - due to my travel plans. As I am naturally short sighted (approx -3D in both eyes) I only had the right eye treated. I'm using mono vision, with an optional weak contact lens for my left eye for computer use. For reading, I don't need the lens. After 3 days, my right eye is already better than with contact lenses. The treatment was quicker and much less uncomfortable than I had expected. More importantly they did'nt oversell what they were offering (no short skirted ladies!). A friend of mine recommended AccuVision Fulham branch to me and I am very happy I got over my fears and had the surgery. I had the initial consultation and surgery on the same day. A bit risky I know but not living in London was a factor and I had already decided to have it done if possible. I was told with my high prescription (over -10 in both eyes with astigmatism) and a thinner than normal cornea, I was a borderline case with higher risks. Everything from the initial consultation, to the day I had my surgery carried out went really well. Its been over 2 years now and I am still pleased with my sight. I was told before my treatment that i might develop glaucoma as I am long sighted and had a very narrow angle in one eye. Well tomorrow i am having laser treatment for acute closed angle glaucoma. My sister has had this treatment for her glaucoma and it did not work so she has had her lens replaced in both eyes. So fingers crossed my laser works for me tomorrow. Any way thanks to Joan and Brett Halliday for all the help I received. These guys were fantastic, from start to finish. they don't push the "hard sell" and explain everything very thoroughly to you. After my free consultation, it didn't take me long to decide to use these guys, but even then they recommended that I went home and sleep on it. I had laser surgery around 16 months ago at Accuvision, Solihull and I have had excellent results. I decided to go for laser surgery as I was starting to struggle with contact lenses as I was finding them uncomfortable and dry. Also glasses were giving me headaches and I just didn't like wearing them. I first went for a consultation at Optimax as it's widely advertised. On looking at my prescription (-7 and -8 with astigmatism), the consultant immediately said that I would not be able to have laser surgery as it would require removal of more cornea than what I have, to achieve the results of 20/20 vision. After much research and consultations at a number of clinics I decided on Accuvision for my laser surgery. Accuvision were by far: 1) the most helpful in terms of detailed advice, 2) the least pushy, 3) offered the best value, and 3) worked with outstanding technology (including the fastest laser) All the staff at every point before and after the procedure were extremely professional and knowledgeable. I had Wavefront Lasik performed at Accuvision in Solihull (near Birmingham) on 15/04/2008. The Clinic is easy to get to and is just a couple of miles off Junction 5 of the M42. My prescription was -2.50 both eyes. I chose Accuvision because all the feedback I had read on various forums was always positive. I had my consultation on 07/04/2008. this treatment is done at home on a computer 3 times a week with a visit back to the clinic once a month.i have an amblyopic (lazy) left eye which cannot be corrected with laser surgery of any type.i was due a medical for my job(tanker driver)and needed a visual acuity of at least 6/12 in the weaker eye(new eu guidelines).if the treatment hadn't worked i would have lost my licence and therefore my job and probably my house.thankfully after 3months of treatment i had succeeded in improving from 6/18 to 6/12 in fact i am bordering on 6/9.considering most opticians will tell you that a lazy eye cannot be improved i am thrilled with the results which are also meant to be permanent.i would defin ...  More...

I had consultations with Optical Express and Ultralase prior to visiting the Solihull Accuvision clinic. OE were competent enough, but still left me with the whole feeling of being on a conveyor belt and whilst I couldn't overly fault them I didn't really have the confidence to go ahead with them. Ultralase were just appallingly inefficient at the consultation and I had no desire to go to them for treatment. I have just had my second cross-linking treatment for my Keratoconus and thought I would share my experience, especially as cross-linking is quite a new procedure. I was diagnosed with Keratoconus by my High Street Optician - from this point I spent a lot of time (as many of us do) researching what it meant on the internet. Before the treatment I was - 2.25 and -2.75 and had a slight astigmatism in one eye. I received the treatment yesterday in the Solihull clinic and today I have 20/15 vision (better than 20/20). I originally went to another clinic but I came out very disappointed as they gave me 3 options, completely confused me with technology and basically said what treatment I received was down to my budget !! I had my treatment on 25th March, having thought long and hard about doing this. At the age of 43, I wondered whether I would be free of myopia only to find that a few years later I would need reading glasses. I had been told my my optician that they could under correct one eye, but I did not really like the idea of that, as when I had a weak contact lens in one eye but perfect in the other eye it gave me headaches. I initially visited Accuvision earlier this year for an assessment. A friend had previously been treated there and highly recommended them. Prior to that I had visited one of the major High Street chains. After my experience in the High Street I was not positive regarding what the outcome of my visit to Accuvision might be. If you are considering having laser eye surgery, read on. I payed £950 per eye for the best care you could receive anywhere and I visited another more popular clinic(ultra lase) just to compare and was quoted more than double what i paid at accuvision. There are no sales team offering you a deal or finance options and no pushy so called advisors telling you what is best for you. Absolutely fantastic!! The surgery only took a couple of minutes and was completely painless, you honestly cannot feel a thing (I was about -4 in both eyes with slight astigmatism in one eye). I was on my way home only 10 minutes after I had the op. I was reading number plates on the way home and in the afternoon I could read things in the distance as good as my boyfriend who has perfect vision, I was so impressed, couldn’t believe how quick I could see clearly. I would say this is the best money I have ever spent. I went to Optimax previously for a consultation and was quoted £3090! So I looked on the internet and found Accuvision, read all the testimonials and booked an appointment. It was a much better experience, everything was explained and the price about half that I was quoted elsewhere. I was worried on the day of surgery as any normal person would be. But it did not hurt and I was talked through every step. It was over before you knew it. There was nothing to fear. I came out and could see, although slightly blurry. From the moment I made the initial contact I have been treated with the utmost professionalism. We received a brochure and DVD within two days. The DVD is great showing exactly what to expect. Through this we phoned and made an appointment. We were a little concerned at having to go to London but need not have worried as it is so easy to get to the clinic from Victoria station. After an initial consultation with a well known high street optician, I was convinced I wanted to go ahead with laser surgery but I WAS NOT CONFIDENT with the staff who tried to answer my questions. Just fantastic. From the moment I got into the waiting room prior to the operation until today- over 2 weeks later- I couldn't be happier. From the Ophthalmologist who performed the first consultation to the surgeon who performed the operation, everyone was marvellous. They were really friendly, and explained everything really well. The consequence is that I can see properly for the first time since I was 10- not yesterday- without any correction at all. They could not have been better. I had problems with dryness resulting in ulceration with contact lenses which caused me to have laser treatment. The team at Accuvision were fantastic and, because I had recurring dryness after the surgery (in May 2007) they had me back at the clinic on a monthly basis until they were satisfied that things had settled. I have only just been discharged, 9 months later. They are friendly, professional, reassuring, honest, and kind. I know they are not the cheapest but I think it's worth the extra! Highly recommended. I had both eyes lazered two weeks ago and I cannot stress what a worthwhile investment this has been for me. I have been wearing glasses and lenses since I was 18 and am about -5.00 in both eyes. I cycle and run regularly and 'convenience' has been one of the main reasons why I wanted to have the surgery. This clinic was strongly recommended to me by an Optician friend who works for one of the few specialised eye lazer clinics in Dublin, Ireland. Six years on and still going strong. Not even a pair of reading glasses in sight, (well not yet anyway). I can hardly remember ever wearing glasses and I can honestly say that I've had no problems at all since my surgery and my vision has been perfect. To all those thinking of having the op, I have no hesitation in recommending Accuvision. I had my 'operation' only two weeks ago and haven't looked back. I picked Accuvision because two of my friends recommended them. I had a consultation with them and with Optical Express who advertise at £350 per eye. Actually the quote from Optical Express for the same treatment I had at Accuvision was over £3000! Accuvision were great. The 'operation' was painless and quick, the worst part was the all in the mind. I was a wimp but the surgeon explained everything he was doing and the nurse held my hand. I am 32 years old and have been using contact lenses on and off since I was 18, and had already developed repeated eye infections caused by using lenses too much. The private Doctor I saw for the infections suggested to consider laser treatment since he knew I didn't like wearing glasses and I started to study clinics on the internet. I had surgery 21 months ago now, and thought it was time for an update....... I promised the guys at Accuvision that I would not only add a review straight after surgery, but also add one a various stages in the future. OK, averything is still amazing, the only problem is I do seem to take it for granted now, which is something I promised I would never do. My pre-op presciption was -7.00 in both eyes with a slight asigmatism, I am due an eye test, but know that my sight is still fantastic. I do not need to use any drops at all, even when flying long haul, and often people suffer with dry eyes then, my eyes are completely "normal". I came across the clinic through a recommendation from a friend. I'd done my research beforehand, and had been recommended Accuvision, but have been amazed by them ever since my first visit - the way they treat their customers if personable and way in advance of any private healthcare I've ever had. You really get the feeling that they care about their patients and enjoy what they do. I'm now 1 1/2 months past surgency, and my eyes are bordering on 20:15, beforehand I thought 20:20 was the best possible so would have been happy with that - but to have above average eye-sight is great. This is an update. I was discharged by the clinic one year ago. I was so pleased with the outcome at that time. The whole experience from initial consult through to discharge was one of care and professionalism. The whole team were wonderful. Monovision is tricky to come to terms with and it takes longer to settle down, but, WOW when it is healed and when you suddenly realise you are seeing normally every day that's when you know that you are recovered.
