Considering Laser Eye Surgery in the UK?, then you have reached the right place. This is because the content of this website is almost all provided by feedback from those who have already experienced Laser eye surgery in the guise of either Wavefront, Zyoptix, Lasik, Lasek or PRK eye surgery.

I had my surgery three weeks ago after what has amounted to a seven year deliberation. My prescription was -10 sph, -2.75 and -12 sph, -1.5 cyl so you could say I was more than a little short-sighted. I have worn glasses or contact lenses since I was seven years old. I am now 39. When I finally decided to go for an assessment, I chose Accuvision. I saw their ad in the newspaper and then checked out both their website and this website and felt comfortable that they were a good start to this quest. My expectations were split between being totally unsuitable and being suitable for a partial correction. So when I had my first appontment with Joan, who explained all the measurements, the safe thr ...  More...

Having heard about the Accuvision laser clinic opening up almost two years ago, which was supposed to be using the latest state of the art laser treatment (Wavefront). I started researching the web to see what it was all about. Finally after months of sifting through all the information, I decided to make a trip to Accuvision for a consultation, forearmed with the knowledge that my opticians had previously told me I had an irregular corneal shape. They picked this up in the examination. Daryus and Vik explained to me, that although this might be a contraindication for treatment by most clinics and that they would like to ask me to come back at intervals to see any changes that might be occur ...  More...

There doesn't seem to be as many people using Accuvision now as there was. I had my eyes done in May. I am happy with them but still not as happy as I would have hoped. One thing that was not made clear was regarding the enhancement. I was told that, if I was not happy, I could have an enhancement. However, what they failed to tell me was that, if there was only a small difference, they wouldn't do a correction. I admit that the correction is small but my eyesight is definately not as good as with my contact lenses and I seem to suffer from double vision. Bear in mind that you are not always suitable for an enhancement.  More...

At age 37 my long sight was becoming more of a problem as I got older. I had worn contact lenses since I was in my late 20's and had some damage to my eyes as a result of excessive wear. Basically I had grown extra blood vessels due to my eyes being starved of oxygen. This then resulted in having to wear glasses which I hated, and by the end of the day I struggled to see clearly even with glasses on. I remember not being able to read a menu with my glasses on, and decided I had to find out about laser treatment. I had changed my optician and asked her about laser treatment to be told I would not be suitable because my sight prescription was too high, +4.75 and +3.75, and because I had ...  More...

I was very impressed with the results. I didn't expect a near 20/20 vision. The team was very proffessional and made me feel relaxed. A very special thanks to everyone at Accuvision especially Nick Dash who gave me the Consultation, Will Ayliffe who corrected my eye sight and a special thanks to Vikash Patel who made me feel so relaxed and confident throughout my visits. Well done! I would recommend Accuvision to anyone.!!  More...

I went for my pre-op check on July 1st - they seemed a little rushed and the the matter of fact way in which they told me how they were going to sculpt the corneas did concern me - I saw several different people for the same checks and each came up with a slightly varying result. Anyway I researched the net on the subject and accuvision, seemed to be highly praised. They had the best equipment. A few of my friends had their eyes done at Ultralase one has vision that is 20/10 and is very happy, another has vision that 20/20 and is reasonably happy - another friend had his eyes done at Optimax for £400 he has suffered infections had to go to specialists - had his eyeball frozen so they coul ...  More...

Fourteen years ago I made what was probably the worst decision of my life. I had corrective eye surgery. Not laser surgery - that was still in the experimental stage at the time - but the old so-called "Russian Operation" or to give it its proper name Radial Keratotomy (RK). This had had some amount of publicity back in the late 1980s. At that time I had worn glasses for myopia for 16 years. I had loathed and detested them from the outset. At age 16 I progressed to contact lenses (my father bought me them as a present for passing all my 'O' Levels, probably the only reason I did any revision!) I subsequently wore them morning, noon and night and ended being told by my optician that my eyes w ...  More...

I had Lasik treatment about 6 weeks ago at accuvision in Fulham. My prescription was r-8.00 / -1.00 x 180 and l-6.50 / -1.50 x 180. I was absolutely sick and tired of wearing glasses and was actually told by my optician to stop wearing contact lenses completely because of a lack of oxygen getting through to my eyes. I found i could not wear my lenses any longer anyway, it just got too uncomfortable. The surgery was painless and the recovery was amazing. 6 weeks on and my eyesight is fabulous, i have better than 20/20 vision without any post op problems, whatsoever. My corneas were slightly thinner than average, but given the advanced customised technology that Accuvision use, they ar ...  More...

Have been investigating laser surgery for 7 years including unsuccessful consultations with Optimax and Ultralase. Sick of contact lenses and specs. I hate feeling dependent on solutions and stuff. I regularly travel abroad and hate the hassle of packing them...always in the hand luggage along with specs in case the luggae doesn't make it. Heard about Accuvision 2 years ago, but when I called they sounded in their infancy so I left it. Went last Wednesday for test as a birthday present to me for my 40th (in July). Delighted to learn that I could be treated and immediately asked for the operation that same day. The next slot was the next day. The team at Accuvision are very professional ...  More...

I had Lasik surgery at Accuvision on Thursday, 29th May 2003. Previously I had worn glasses for circa 40 years. Pre-op. my prescription was: Right Eye: Sphere (-8.50), Cylinder (-2.50), Axis (5). Left Eye: Sphere (-8.00), Cylinder (-1.50), Axis 180). About a year prior to surgery, I’d met someone at work who had a similar prescription to mine & had had laser surgery. He was positive about the process & it set me thinking. I searched on the Internet & found several sites & found this one the most useful. After some further pondering, I decided to proceed & the choice came down to Moorfields or Accuvision. The positive feedback patients reported from Accuvision tipped the bala ...  More...

Well, it's over 18 months since I underwent my Wavefront Lasik treatment at Accuvision. Truly it's unbelievable that I've forgotten what being so short-sighted was like, almost taking it for granted that I can see so well. I'm delighted with all aspects of my treatment and aftercare and the attention to detail that the staff have demonstrated. Anyone looking at this site who values their eyesight and understands that there is more to it than "how much will it cost?" could do a lot worse than trust their eyes to Accuvision. Keep up the good work!!  More...

This is my 2 month report back.. In my previous post, I said I was 20/20 in my right eye and just under in my left eye after 1 week. Well, 8 weeks later I am now 20/15 in my right eye and just under 20/20 in my left eye - FANTASTIC!!. I didn't actually notice my eyes getting better, but when it came to reading the chart at Accuvision, it became apparent that they were. The service etc is excelllent at Accuvision and I am extremely pleased with my results. It was painless, quick (surgery took less than 8 minutes for both eyes) and the results have been perfect. I know some people have had experiences of grittiness in the eye, dry eyes, starburst around lights etc, but I had NONE of thes ...  More...

well this is a year & half update for +6 & +6.5 with big astigmatisms. It was scary, it was expensive & my eye sight still fluctuates (i have one bad day per three weeks where i would not drive if i knew how to). I've been to an indpendant optisions who said i had over 2020 vision & slight astigmatisms & when the looked at my last prescription nearly fell of the seat in amazement & now recomments it to customers who ask as my eyes are so healthy & vision so good. I would do it again, i am always recommending it to people & have so many friends who had it done i wonder if i could get some money back...? please feel free to contact me for specifics i have posted before & am always ...  More...

My story is fairly simple; About November 2002 I read all the websites and found the clinics that were reviewed best. Made a list of the top ones. I thought that whichever of the top rated clinics I go to there should be little difference in the outcome probability. It’s just in the chance/luck of the operation if you have any problems. Accuvision was in walking distance so I thought that’s good enough for me! I walked into the Fulham branch on a Friday late November 2002. Had my initial consultation and was found to be suitable -5 or -6 in both eyes (Don’t remember exactly). Made an appointment for next the available space - Monday. Walk to the Accuvision on Monday. Had operat ...  More...

I decided to get my eyes done about a year ago and looked into various eye clinics and after doing a bit of research was a bit dismayed that most eye clinics only treat hyperopia (long sight) up to around +3 dioptres. I have or did have a high prescription, my right eye was +6.00 with astigmatism of +1.75, and the left eye was +6.50 with astigmatism of +1.75. However I saw the advert in the paper for accuvision and how they can treat patients with high prescriptions with wavefront guided lasik. I phoned up for a booklet and let it at that. Fast forward to the beginning of June and having two weeks off I decided to see if I was compatible in having the surgery. I phoned up for a consu ...  More...

I had my surgery on 3rd of July which was excellent adn definitely not worth worrying about for as long as I did. I was -3.75 in both eyes, which became 20/20 in my right eye and just under in my left after only 7 days. Everything about your eyes continuing to heal is true, as mine feel better (albeit slightly - don't expect massive change on a daily basis) every day. The best thing is the fact that the op really is painless. The only thing I felt would be best described as mild discomfort when the clamps were put on my eyes. The actual surgical stuff (cutting, laser etc) was absolutely painless. having a filling is 100 times as painful..easily. I recommend Accuvision to everyone bec ...  More...

Dear Dave Windle, I love the idea that performing hyperopic lasik on a dimpled cornea involves just "zapping" the problem away. Making a cornea more curved is incredibly difficult, and they tend to regress. If that cornea has already been dimpled centrally in a myopic treatment the problems are increased (putting it mildly). Some people think that a tight contact lens and Acular (I think) can work in a case like yours - you might want to ask your opthalmologist. I'm not getting at anyone, but given that everyone who uses this site has, obviously, access to the web, I am amazed that more people have not made use of what the web contains.  More...

An update. I had Lasik just over 3 months ago (28th April). The results are not perfect yet and it does worry me. I was shortsighted, but am now longsighted especially in the left eye , +1.25 at last check , which seems like quite a high error as I was only -3.75 before! Accuvision keep telling me to wait, which I am doing, but I am plagued with eye strain and headaches. I do not want to get glasses as I paid 3600 quid not to have them!! All at Accuvision are great and very professional, but it all boils down to the vision in the end and until it is satisfactory I will not rate them any higher. I do have faith that they will sort it in the end though.Darius said that if there was an ...  More...

My son, recently turned 19, had always been severely short-sighted with astigmatism, and even as a toddler often had to wear thick glasses with patches over one eye in an attempt to strengthen his weaker eye. The only way he could read was with things directly in front of his face, and it was too much of a strain to read books. He has suffered many knock backs with his eyes over the years, the latest being having to give up driving lessons after failing the sight test. I was advised that Scott`s sight might never be good enough to drive. He had been waiting for months to see the eye specialist at the local hospital without success, when my brother rang and told me about an advertisement h ...  More...

I had surgery on Monday 19th May. Accuvision were very good - the surgery was not painful - the eye clamp was a bit uncomfortable but that was all - it just felt a bit odd. Most importantly for me is that you can't really see anything happening - so many drops are put in your eyes that everything in blurred anyway. I had no pain afterwards and my eyes didn't stream at all. I am pleased with the results, although a 'little' disappointed as my eyes are not as good as they were with my contact lenses - I have 20/20 vision with both eyes but slightly less than 20/20 individually - I must have had better than 20/20 with my contact lenses but didn't realise it. Apparently, it could still im ...  More...

Whilst researching Lasik, I came across this website and it was largely due to the positive comments about Accuvision that I decided to have my -6 and -4 eyes corrected by Wavefront Guided Lasik last Thursday. It's all true - these guys are undoubtedly the best!! I had a look at Boots at Bluewater as well but although their technology looks impressive, I felt the consultation was very 'production line', and my questions were really rushed through. The procedure is unpleasant and stressful, I was surprised to find the eye clamps going in was actually the worst bit. The suction and cutting of the flap did not hurt at all. Afterwards I went home and laid in a darkened room with my eyes c ...  More...

I had surgery at Accuvision around three and half weeks ago. My prescription was around -7 in both eyes, with some astigmatism and very thin corneas. I was terribly disappointed to be turned down by Optimax about two years ago, because of this combination of high prescription and thin corneas. When I first saw the advert for Accuvision and how it could treat cases that other places couldn't, I was initially a bit sceptical. It was only by idly surfng the net one day, that I came across this website and saw all the rave reviews that people had given to Accuvision. This convinced me to give them a call. At my consultation, which was very thorough, I was told that they could treat me, b ...  More...

I went for my consultation with Vik on May 20th, which lasted longer than I thought (2 hours), but was very thorough. I have decided to go ahead with LASIK in early July, and now have to endure the waiting which is surely the worst bit. Accuvision have been personally recommended to me by a close friend who now can't stop reading number plates from miles away, after being short sighted for years. I look forward to a successful outcome, and will put my post-surgery comments on this page..  More...

I had a consultation with Vik at Accuvision in March and am considering having LASIK in July or August. I have - 6 in both eyes with slight astigmatism, however my pupils when dilated are 7.5mm and 8.5mm. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has undergone LASIK (either successfully or unsuccessfully) with a pupil size of over 8mm. I am confident that the service offered by Accuvision is one of the best in the industry, but before biting the bullet would find it helpful to hear from others who have undergone the proceedure with similar prescription and pupil size!  More...

Having had a bad experience with Ultralase (see my post 26-May-03), I thought all was lost until I came accross this website and began reading some of the posts here about accuvision! So booked a consultation - my prescription was -9 & -8.25 with slight astigmatism. Vic was very thorough, and never put me under any pressure. These guys specialise in hard prescriptions - Ultralase couldn't do me because my pupils dilate to 7mm and they could only treat a 6mm surface, plus they would have left me < 250microns corneal thickness (excluding flap). Vic & Daryus prescribed a customised Lasik method (I wouldn't need wavefront), which would require an inverted flap and extra thin flap of 100 m ...  More...

I finally went ahead with my surgery on 24th March with Accuvision. (Decided against Centre for Sight for a number of reasons - see comments under their heading) I am tempted to write Ditto, ditto, ditto, ditto because every positive comment I have read about Accuvision on this website is TRUE!!!! However I will be more specific for the benefit of the people I have promised. (by the way, thank you to all of you who contacted me since my first posting with all your encouraging comments) I had -3 in both eyesand large pupils! I had wavefront treatment performed by M Rostron with all the usual team present (and a few spectators if I remember correctly) The procedure was painless and I am glad ...  More...

I had the op two weeks ago now.Following exhaustive research and visits to various clinics I am convinced that Accuvision are as good as it gets in terms of technology and surgical skill. They have treated me very well amd made me feel comfortable and confident at all times. Immediately after the op I could tell that my right eye was excellent and far better than my left. This has continued to be the case. At the one week post op test my right eye was better than 20/20, but the left eye was still struggling to read the letters on the chart with any real clarity. I have spoken to Accuvision about this on a couple of occassions and they have told me to wait, be patient and give the eye ti ...  More...

I am due to have surgery next Monday 19th May. I am still unsure what to do about having one eye under-corrected for reading purposes. Someone I have spoken to has said that they are finding it hard to get used to the difference between the prescription. Also, I am feeling a touch(!) nervous about the actual proceedure - not the outcome so much, but the actual surgery - any help in calming me down would also be appreciated!!  More...

I have been looking into Laser Surgery for a couple of years. I finally plucked up courage and went to consultation. The consultation process was extremely thorough and all questions were well answered. A week later I found myself about to enter surgery. The procedure itslef is absolutely nothing to worry about. I felt slight pressure to my eyes and that was all. No pain. All staff kept me informed throughout and the procedure was over before I knew it. I walked into the waiting area able to see my Dad at the other end of the room unaided by specs. Absolutely fantastic. My prescription was -3.50 and -3.75 inclusive of astigmatism. I am now six weeks post op and I have better than 20:20 ...  More...

My sister attended a clinic in london (Not Accuvision) a year ago, she had experienced a problem when they cut the flap as well as dry eyes, whilst the clinic was very good, it meant a lot of travelling to and from Scarborough, as well as the expense of train travel. The clinic had a local optician in Scarborough, however they where not qualified to handle such a case. When choosing a clinic, this should be a consideration and you should ask yourself, whilst the chance is small, if there is a problem would you be prepared to travel the distance. I have had laser eye treatment, and think it is the best thing that has ever happened to me, so good luck!  More...

I had treatment on Friday 25th April and have found the comments informative pre-surgery and reassuring in the days that have passed since I took the plunge! My eyes made me a typical Accuvision patient - nothing particularly unusual about my prescription (-2.25 and -2.50 with astigmatism). However, my pupils were classified as 'huge' (not particularly technical but a relevant description at 8mm). I had been to Maxivision previously and fortunately the surgeon was reluctant to treat me as I was likely to have significant night vision problems. He recommended Accuvision as the newer technology was likely to improve the outcome. At my initial consultation, the team at Accuvision reassured ...  More...

Hi I have decided to go to Accuvision for a consultation as I consider it can offer the best treatment available. However, I live in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and realise that the distance involved will be problematic i.e trains, tubes etc. I am a complete stranger to London and would be very grateful if anyone who has been faced with a similar problem could advise the best and most economical way to get to the clinic. Thanks for any help.  More...

Location: Parsons Green Surgeon: William Aycliffe I had spent a great deal of time researching lasik and choosing a clinic and I would thoroughly recommend this clinic from my experiences The initial consultation and examination was very extensive and they were more than happy to answer the many questions I had to put my mind at ease. In my case the preoperative assessment revealed that I had very thin corneas in both eyes particularly where the hinges of the flaps would be. They explained that by using pioneering techniques they would be able to modify the flap design to ensure a successful outcome. The actual surgery was very quick, with no pain whatsoever. The results are truly ...  More...

My mother blames it on the Mumps she had when I was a mere foetus but whatever the cause I have had terrible eyesight as far back as I can remember, all the photos of me as a kid show the glasses firmly in place. In my early 20s I took to hard contact lenses and in my mid 30s I changed to soft lenses. Now at 50 the technology is at long last here to fix things, so I researched extensively both here and in America before making my choice. At Accuvision they tested my eyes at around -7 each with astigmatism , early presbyopia and secondary aberrations. In addition they found that I had large pupils, a thin cornea and damage to the front of the eye caused by the hard lenses. Nice. Fortunately ...  More...

Accuvision - Parsons Green Surgeon - Mr William Ayliffe Surgery - April 2002 I had my surgery just under one year ago and have just been back for my first year check up. My prescription has remained stable over the course of the year with only the tiniest deterioration in the right eye. This is so small I hadn't even noticed. After the first year of being rid of glasses and contact lenses I can only thank all the team at Accuvision for their support and understanding of my concerns. All aspects of my life are now back to as they were in my early twenties before my sight deteriorated (and of course my fitness!). Sport, driving and daily activities are infinitely easier. I had lasik treatment on both eyes in October 2002. My aim was to achieve good eyesight with out the need for glasses. I am 59 years and my problem was reading and wearing varifocals. I experimented with contact lenses and monovision for about two years before I decided that Lasik and Monovision were the answers. I investigated several clinics and found that Accuvision, although the most expensive, were by far the most reassuring and honest sounding. My results have been fantastic in that I had my flying licence back within four months and have just today had an independent optometrists examination with the finding that my vision is stable and remains 20/10. He also says that the flaps were ...  More...

I had bilateral Wavefront LASIK almost a week ago. Surgeon: William Ayliffe, with input from Daryus. Prescription: - 2.75 / -3.00 + astigmatism. I did find it very painful, as I felt the first part of each flap being cut. However, this happened so quickly that I had no time to flinch! The whole thing is quite fascinating to look back on actually! With no sedative administered, I also found it VERY hard to stop myself from freaking out! I kept forgetting to breathe, in an effort to keep still! However, I'm sure Accuvision have a good reason for not giving any Valium - maybe it affects the eye muscles? After the surgery the surgeon said that one eye would heal more quickly if he rinse ...  More...

I had my procedure carried out on 12th March 2003. As with other postimonials, the reason it has taken me so long to post my findings on this site (despite my having fervently promised Vic I would do so immediately!) is that I have been having the time of my life since I regained my sight. It has been wonderful and I cannot thank the staff of Accuvision enough for making the whole process so good and of course for their efficiency. I am one of those rare creatures who actually found the procedure itself quite distressing and I could swear I felt every cut that laser made but I don't want to unduly alarm anyone who has yet to decide on it as like childbirth, you do forget the pain and disc ...  More...

I had Accuwave Lasik treatment at Accuvision on 19th March 2003, pre-op my eyes were +4.50 right/+5.5 left eye, and opted for a monovision result as I did not wish to wear glasses even for reading! Despite being told of the greater risks, etc., I decided to go ahead and I am very pleased I did! The operation itself was painless and not nearly as traumatic and frightening as I envisioned, the supporting staff and surgeons were very helpful and considerate. Afterwards my vision was slightly blurry but cleared gradually throughout the evening, I followed instructions keeping my eyes shut most of the time after the op and sunglasses on until I went to bed, putting in the antibiotic drops h ...  More...

I was longsighted and had surgery on both of my eyes on 14 February 2003. From the moment that I entered the clinic it was apparent how professional and caring all of the staff were. My consutation with Vik was very detailed and covered all eventualities which I found very helpful without being pushy. Yes, it was uncomfortable having my eyes clamped open but there was no pain what so ever during the operation. To emphasise the high standards that they set, a minute particle of debris was found to still be in my eye it was removed immediately with no discomfort to me. Following surgery my eyes felt gritty as previously explained to me. After resting my eyes for four hours I was amazed how ...  More...

I had my op done nearly 4 weeks ago at Accuvision and I'm sorry its taken me till now to post this. The truth is that its taken me till now to realise that I don't wear specs any longer as today was the first day since the operation that I looked into the mirror to apply makeup, and it suddenly dawned on me - I dont wear glasses anymore!!!! I've been wanting to get my eyes done for a while, not because I hated my glasses but because I hated being so utterly dependant on them. I was -6.50 and -7.00 with a slight cyl and had worn specs for more than 30 years and I felt Iwas blind without my spectacles! I was very impressed with the consultation I had at Accuvision but I have two concerns and I'd be very interested to hear comments from those who have undergone the treatment. Firstly, I'd love to hear from monovisionists! Did it work out for you or have you had to go back for further surgery? Secondly, I'm worried about losing that wonderful, clear near-vision that short-sighted people have. Joan rather delightfully described it as 'super-vision'. Does anyone out there miss theirs or was it a reasonable pay-off? Thanks for sharing your experiences with me.  More...

I had waveguided surgery done in early December. The results are fantastic. It's been very easy to get used to not needing glasses, particularly around swimming pools and spas. :-) I have one quibble though and that's why I'm writing. The procedures for dealing with patients who have dry eyes aren't all that great. At my check up in January the optometrist discovered a dry area in one of my eyes. I was given a bottle of eye drops and told to pop in some drops as soon as I felt my eyes be the least dry. As far as it goes, that's good advice. But with the excellent pre-op care I got, I would have expected better post-op care when it comes to dry eyes. After a few days of constant eye d ...  More...

It's now nearly 18 months since my LASIK surgery at Accuvision. I can truely say that I've forgotten what it's like to be short-sighted,(I take it for granted that I can now see so well without glasses/contacts all the time). There was an initial period of "settling in" after surgery, and I opted for what they call monovision, where one eye is left a little undercorrected to avoid needing glasses for near vision as you get older. I cannot thank the team at Accuvision enough, all so professional, knowledgable and courteous throughout. You pay for what you get, cutting edge technology and a brilliant result.  More...

I had laser surgery yesterday (17th March) and I must say, so far, so good. Whilst having your eyes clamped open obviously isn't enjoyable, I found the whole experience to be surreal rather than painful. In a way, it's a bit like a bungy jump - you have make a leap of faith in order to go ahead and put your life in someone else's hands in order to make get through it all. The whole thing was very quick, the actual procedure only took about 20 minutes. The staff were all good, the nurse was reassuring and told me what to expect (minus the gory details), the surgeon took time to make sure all my questions are answered beforehand and I was sure I wanted to go ahead (in fact I felt like I was ...  More...

Together with getting married and travelling around the world, this is the BEST THING I EVER DID. No regrets, it's miraculous. 2 years ago I was refused treatment at Optimax due to my astigmatism. After receiving a recommendation for Accuvusion, I booked in for a free consultation and was informed that my 3.25 / 3.50 impaired dvision could be corrected, as well as my severe astigmatism. I haven't looked back since. Accuvision have been absolutely fantastic from day one. I had a thorough examination with Vik who immediately made me feel comfortable and relaxed. There are no secrets at Accuvision. They tell you the whole story - details of the intricate procedure, the advanced wavefront ...  More...

6 days on from my surgery and so far total success, operation was interesting rather than painful, the flap cutting slightly uncomfortable, vision 20/20 within 24hrs, very little discomfort, initially some fluctuation in vision as expected but this now ceased. Night vision not noticeably better (yet?) but have not driven so not really tested. At 1 week check up am expecting 20/10 vision. You get you what you pay for as every body posting here mentions. What you get at Accuvision is a laser 4 times faster than competitors allowing for quicker operation time and less time for flap to dry out. Flap healing is therefore quicker and less chance of complications. Quicker telemetry so laser is ...  More...

I've recently had two consultations for my short sight (-2.75 / -3 + astigs.) Ultralase - after 45 mins they gave me the go-ahead without even dilating my pupils, having checked the thickness of my corneas by poking me in the eyes without anaesthetic. Then they leaned on me to book treatment right away. Cost: £1849 for both eyes. Accuvision - spent nearly 3 hours checking & re-checking my eyes with state of the art equipment, spotting various irregularities treatable with Wavefront technology. Answered my huge list of questions patiently & were very friendly. Cost: £3600 for both eyes, with Wavefront. Conclusion: you get what you pay for. I will be going ahead with Accuvision.  More...

Having been tempted by laser eye surgery for well over a decade I decided to take the plunge and see if my eyes were suitable. After reading the positive comments on this web site I decided to have a consultation with Accuvision and another clinic where a colleague had been treated. I was much more impressed with the team at Accuvision who spent longer with me, explained the procedure and possible consequences in detail and answered all my questions. I then decided to find out more for myself about the different types of laser and their advantages. There is lots of information on the internet – some of the best sites are those for eye professionals such as Eurotimes, Ophthalmology Times ...  More...

I went for consultations with a three different clinics including Accuvision at the end of last year, of the three I was in no doubt that the right choice for myself was Accuvision. As most of reviews on this site have stated previously the staff are very professional and knowledge as well as very nice people. With the help of the consultants I decided the Wavefront Guided treatment was the right choice for me. I had read up on the benefits of wavefront treatment before attending the consultation as well as contacting previous patients of Accuvision to ask them of their experiences. I made a booking for the beginning of January. My prescription pre-op was -8 in the right eye and -7.25 ...  More...

I underwent bilateral LASIK at Accuvision on 29th May 2002. Previously -2.75L/-3.75R with about 0.5 astig. Now 6/6 unaided VA and very happy with the results. Very slight haloing and starbursts, which don't really cause too much bother. I experienced no pain at all during the treatment, just a high level of anxiety caused more by what my mind was imagining, than what was actually going on. I would definitely recommend Accuvision to anyone interested in laser sight correction. Having read only glowing, 5/5 reports about Accuvision on this site prior to my treatment, I must admit I did suspect that they might be offering some kind of referral incentive - they were the only clinic witho ...  More...

Went to Accuvision on Tuesday for an initial consultation. As many before, I found all the staff to be friendly, helpful and above all extremely professional and knowledgeable. I am also going to the Centre for sight as a comparison but they will have to be out of this world to beat the confidence I already feel towards Accuvision. Apparently I have larger than average pupils(!!) and this makes the surgery more complicated despite my low prescription of -3 in both eyes. Has anyone else had this and gone ahead with Wavefront - I'm scared and would welcome any reassuring comments!!  More...

Had my 'Wavefront' treatment on the 17th Feb. and now, two days later, have to say that this is easily one of the best things I have done. Pre-treatment I was -5:00 and -4:75 with astigmatism in the left eye. One day after surgery I was at 20/20 and have been delightedly reading absolutely anything and everything I can find...it really is like being a kid in a sweet shop! The operation was painless but uncomfortable and I would agree with earlier comments about the unpleasantness of having your eyes clamped and something attached to the eyeballs. Amazingly, since this, I have experienced almost zero discomfort other than my eyes feeling somewhat dry - as if I had worn contacts for too long ...  More...

I was treated on the 31st Jan with two heavily astigmatic eyes (-6 area) and thin corneas plus large pupils. Like most people who have had this operation it does not hurt at all. Post op I am around -1 and -3 so I may well need to get the left eye redone at some point. My right eye is really superb and I am very staisfied with the treatment I have received. 319 micons in the good eye but 300 in the left means that for any enhancement I will have reduced corneal bed thickness of only 270 area. This is the hard part as I do not want to suffer corneal bulging. If anyone knows what minimum thickness is safe please email me. One thing is for sure - Darius runs a very tight ship at Accuvision.  More...

I have just had a very thorough and professional consultation with Accuvision and having also been to Ultralase I would say that there is no comparison - Accuvision is far more comprehensive. One question though: I have -7.5 and -8 with a -1.25 astigmatism and thin corneas and have been quoted £5000. I was expecting £4000 but definitely not %000. Judging some of the other comments on this site for people with my sort of vision this still seems high. Anyone else been quoted such a high amount?  More...

I've just been for my check-up the day after surgery. Both corneal flaps have healed back in perfect location, and my vision with both eyes together is already not far off 20/20. Considering only a day before I was -10 dioptre, I'm finding this a bit mind-blowing at the moment. The procedure itself yesterday was a breeze. The preparation for surgery was done while I was lying on the laser bed, which meant I was settled when the time came. I won't say I managed to relax completely, but Darius and the team were very reassuring, talking me through the procedure throughout. There was no pain at all. The critical thing for me was the thickness of cornea left post-op (to reduce the ri ...  More...

My mother prompted me into having laser treatment - I think it is something she would have considered, if it had been available when she was my age. I had Wavefront Guided Custom LASIK on 15th January 2003, two weeks after my 41st birthday. (My mother kindly paid for one eye, as it was her suggestion!) It is therefore exactly four weeks since my treatment. My optician in Lincoln recommended Accuvision to me. I took his advice, which meant staying in London for two nights; Tuesday -consultation, Wednesday - treatment, Thursday-follow up appointment. Listening to my mother and optician were the two best things I have EVER done. The procedure was absolutely pain-free, the anaesthetizing drops ...  More...

Having spent months researching different clinics I booked consultations at Accuvision and maxi vision. After a disappointing experience at MaxiVision (see review later) my expectations were mixed. I expected Accuvision to be better than MaxiVision having read the reviews on this site. I saw Joan Griffin who was incredibly helpful and answered all questions fully and completely and asked what I knew and didn't know about lasik. She was a fantastic consultant who gave an excellent first impression of the clinic. Next I saw Daryus Pampathkey Accuvisions technical director. What can I say? He is The Man when it comes to all things Lasik. His knowledge and technical expertise are second to none ...  More...

I have just had my initial assessment with Vik at Accuvision. I found the service I got there superb, Vik was very honest, straight to the point but also understood that this is a huge decision (my sight is -8 and -8,5 and I am only 25) to make and appeared very compassionate. The technology they use is very impressive and the tests they perform very thorough. Apparently my case falls in the 20% or so patients that they treat who are "untreatable" elsewhere. In fact, Vic was so confident of the quality of the treatment at Accuvison that he challenged me to go elsewhere and assess the treatment in other clinics. I am going to take him up on this offer, and will report back when I have seen ot ...  More...

I had my consultation a week ago, and my surgery is booked for a week today. My left eye is -9.75, and my right is -3.00 with an astigmatism of -4.5. Given how rubbish my eyes are, and having had a consultation elsewhere for comparison, I'm happy paying a premium for Accuvison thoroughness. Vikash checked everything, including a measurement of my pupils, and corneal thickness around the edge of my astigmatic eye, not just the centre. Darius's interest and input throughout also gave me confidence. All the risks were explained, and no pressure applied. I just hope I'll be giving 5 stars in a couple of weeks time!  More...

Further to my comments on the 17th Jan (just in case someone thought the surgery went wrong when I didn't report on my treatment sooner!!).... My treatment went as planned 2 weeks ago and even the following day my vision was already 20/20, with an improvement a week later to better than 20/20 in one eye... Yes, its uncomfortable, having your eyes clamped open is never going to pleasant! but the team are very supportive and caring throughout. I have to say make sure you have someone to look after you the day of surgery, it is handy having someone else put the hourly drops in (and to make you drinks and dinner!!) Because I work night shifts within my job I have found it hard at times due to ...  More...

I had wavefront guided Lasik at Accuvision four days ago. I had a mild short-sightedness and astigmatism. I am, so far, very happy with the results. Vision in my left eye is very good; vision in my right eye is better than it was but I'm hoping it will improve. I found the actual procedure extremely unpleasant and would not want to go through it again. Despite that the discomfort is short lived and I have no regrets. Post surgery I had no pain in one eye whilst the other was really quite sore with 'shooting pains'. I wouldn't really describe them as gritty, more prickly! I found the team pleasant and professional. However I agree with the comments posted regarding the rude receptionist ...  More...

Have you heard about the recent judgement by the ASA (advertising standards authority)? I had my eyes done with Accuvision about a year ago and often refer to this site out of curiosity to read other entries. I just thought other interested parties would want to know about this... Basically Ultralase protested against an Accuvision advert that claimed they are able to treat patients that other clinics can't. The ad also said that no other UK clinic can match Accuvision's treatment. The ASA looked into the complaint, and refused to uphold it because Accuvision proved that its claims are true. Accuvision has treated a huge number of people refused by other clinics - including Ultralase! ...  More...

I am booked in for my initial consultation on 10th February 2003 and if all goes well, I shall book in for the operation as soon as I can be fitted in. I am just a bit concerned about the fact that the person who took my call, was abrupt, unfriendly and not at all helpful. She didn't even want to do any more than take my number initially and have someone call me back. Then she seemed to change her mind and said "wait a moment" - yelled down the line in an irritated fashion. She was even shorter with me as she made me repeat everything I said, right down to my postcode! Having read the rave reviews on this site, I am hoping that mine was a one off so far as dodgy encounters go, with the staf ...  More...

I had Wavefront LASIK done 10 days ago at Accuvision. I did a lot of research in advance - I have a PhD in engineering, so probably had a slightly keener interest in the technology. I looked into Wavefront LASIK (which gives a custom correction based on your complete optical system) over a year ago, and decided it was too much in its infancy. However, now the technique seems to be well understood and the results much more predictable than in the early days. Wavefront is available elsewhere (Sunderland Eye Clinic or Site for Eyes, Manchester Centre for Vision) but the kit differs greatly, and the devil is in the detail. The two key things are the laser that Accuvision use (visit ww.ophthal ...  More...

I had my Accuwave Lasik treatment last Wednesday (15th) and I had high expectations, which I'm glad to say have not been let down! The day after the procedure I could read all the 20/20 lines on the chart and my vision seems to be getting clearer and clearer every day. It cost £3000 for both eyes, I think the price of the procedure depends of the strength of prescription and complexity of the operation (sensitive eyes, thin corneas etc). The procedure is not exactly pleasant but well worth it, I found it really quite uncomfortable but no pain and I would do it again so it can't have been that bad! I'm quite a young Lasik patient at 21, neither did I have a high prescription (it w ...  More...

I had my surgery already on 09October last year. My vision was not very bad (ca -1.75 on both eyes, but with astigmatism 2.25 on the left eye), but I had to wear glasses at all times( I first was prescribed glasses at age 14 and at the time of my operation I was 38). After researching the internet, I decided to go to Accuvision-both because of the good ratings they received by patients, but I also had a look on their website which I found very informative. I found that they describe everything in detail and that they mention every possible aspect. The first consultation was very good and detailed, it took more than one hour. During the operation, the team was very helpful, the nurse even hel ...  More...

I am going to reiterate what 99% of people have already said about the team at Accuvision. As a health care professional myself, I know the difference between bad, good and excellent care and what I experienced last Tuesday at my consultation was superb. All the team certainly know what they are talking about, they explain everything thoroughly and without pressure, it is one of the best examples of informed consent I have experienced. Unlike many other people with comments on this site I do not have a strong prescription (-1.25 both eyes) or high astigmatism. I still however have to wear glasses or contact lenses all the time if I want to see clearly so it is just as much an issue whether y ...  More...

Generally the cost seems to be around £3,600 for both eyes. But I think it varies depending on your vision. You pay more, but you definitely get the best treatment - after all it is your eyes! Go and see them at the clinic and have a consultation - you will know if it is the place as soon as you walk through the door and meet the people. Good Luck  More...

I had the op in the morning and kept my eyes closed all the rest of the day, as they felt gritty. The next day I woke up & could actually see without my glasses -wow- eyes were a little sore. I think it was about a week before I was comfortable w ...  More...

I was in and out of the operating theatre in about fifteen minutes tops. by 8 o'clock that same evening I was watching who wants to be a millionaire with no difficulties in reading the ...  More...

I was so convinced they would say no, that had only told a couple of people that I was going. All of the staff at the clinic made me feel so at ease. I was told that I had a high prescription, astigmatism and large pupils!! Nothing new there apart from the pupils bit. Just the challenge the surgeon was looking for. They were convinced they could significantly improve my vision. That was it - I entrusted my eyesight to these people that I had only just met. And I had to pay for it. And it is worth every penny.
