Bruce Allan qualified in medicine from Cambridge in 1985 and was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 1998 after advanced specialist training in the UK, South Africa, and Australia.

With a strong track record in surgical innovation and over 50 publications in international medical journals, he is one of the UK’s leading academic refractive surgeons.

    I cannot speak enough highly of Mr Allan and his team at Moorfields. My procedure went very smoothly and I was discharged last week - my fifth visit in total - with 20-20 vision! I didn't know what to expect going in to my first appointment but had been recommended to Mr Allan by a friend and felt very comfortable with every stage of the process.     I thoroughly recommend ICL with Mr Allan. I now have better than 20/20 vision and ICL was incredible - no pain and vision recovered within a few days. Vision is now amazing, I have never seen better, even with glasses. I had consultations with 3 surgeons at Moorfields and I choose Mr Allan because of his professional manner, his experience in performing this type surgery and his very thorough answers to my questions prior to deciding to go ahead (everyone was done in writing, including detailed explanation of who pays if the result is not as expected).     It took me years to make the decision to have this surgery and now that it's done I don't know why I waited so long. The visual freedom is amazing and life-changing. I no longer have to search for the right pair of specs or tolerate the discomfort of contact lenses. Waking up in the morning and being able to see is fantastic. It didn't occur to me to go anywhere other than Moorfields to have the treatment because eyes are so precious and I wanted to be sure I was being seen by the best.     I am more than happy with the results of my surgery and with the care I received at Moorefields. After wearing glasses all my life, I no longer need to, which really has been life changing.     Thrilled with the results. Very professional team, I dealt mainly with Angelique and she was very helpful in terms of responding to information requests, making appointments,after-procedure support etc. Mr Allan inspires great confidence and I felt I was in very capable hands.     I was thinking to do Lasic for many years. After meeting with doctor Allan and his team, I had no doubts. During the operation I was fully informed at every stage. I am thrilled with the results and went from -4,5 on one eye with astigmatism -3,5 and other eye was -4,25 with astigmatism - 1,5 to perfect 99 % vision. I think it is absolutly amazing!     I don't normally leave reviews but given I was interested to read them myself before proceeding with laser surgery I feel it only appropriate to have my say. If you're concerned and wavering about whether or not to proceed, don't! Mr Allan and his team understand our nerves and concerns and go out of their way to allay all fears and answer all queries.     I am delighted with my laser eye surgery and new corrected vision. I had complete faith in Mr Allen; I just felt he was a safe pair of hands. It is possible to get laser eye surgery for less money but I felt confident walking into theatre for the surgery knowing it was a highly experienced surgeon at the top of his game who would be carrying it out. It was so quick, and I had a couple of hours discomfort that day but after that it was fine. No more glasses or contact lenses - freedom! I love it. More...

    After much research, and a few consultations, the reviews here led me to Moorfields and an appointment with Dr Allan. I had a number of questions and doubts that were answered quickly and professionally. Ultimately, the decision to choose Moorfields came down to the reassurance of a consultation with the surgeon that would carry out the procedure (not possible with other clinics), the best possible equipment, surgical expertise and aftercare (if a follow-up surgery was needed).     My treatment was truly life-changing. As the weeks and months go on my sight is improving all the time. I only suffered from a 'haze-effect' or 'light-scatter' at night in the first few weeks after my treatment (which is normal) and now I have no problems. I don't even suffer from dry eyes, which as a contacts wearer before, was always an issue. Nothing can prepare you for that wonderful moment when you wake up the day after your surgery and you can see for the first time, without scrambling for your glasses.     Bruce Allan and his team did an excellent job on my eyes. I felt confident in their abilities throughout. There was a thorough initial eye test and assessment including a meeting with Mr Allan where I was encouraged to ask any questions. On the day of surgery everything went very smoothly and during the actual procedure Mr Allan talked through what he was doing and what I should expect to see and feel which helped immensely. Recovery afterwards was amazingly quick. I went for a check up the following morning and then went to work. Puting the eye drops in for 4 weeks afterwards was a bit of a hassle, but well worth it for my now better than 20:20 vision eyes! I couldn't be more pleased! More...

    Bruce Allan was fantastic. I'm so happy I went ahead with the laser eye surgery - it is one of the best things I ever did. My prescription was -5 before and I've just had my 3 month check up and have better than 20 20 vision. I also have no dryness or any other issues. The customer service was excellent at Moorfields.     I had my surgery in March 2011 with Bruce Allan. I am absolutely delighted with the results, it was painless. My friend collect me from the Hospital then I came straight home, put the eyes drop as per instructions. After a few hours I could read the newspaper without the glasses, I felt such a freedom.     I chose Moorfields Eye Hospital on a recommendation from a friend. Moorfields is certainly the best place to go for surgery in terms of the quality and experience of the surgeons and the technology, along with the excellent after-care. Knowing that you are in the best place possible for correcting your eyesight is very reassuring. The pre-assessment was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. The surgeon was Bruce Allan. Surgery was pain free and the treatment corrected my myopia and astigmatism. I would not hesitate to have the surgery again. I only wish I had it many years ago.     I am a keen sportsman (football, tennis etc) and can honestly say that LASIK has made a massive difference. Mr Bruce Allan treated me earlier this year and he and his team at Moorfields did a great job at every stage. The initial consultation was thorough, the surgery was much easier than I thought it would be, and the results are excellent. I was pretty anxious on the day of the operation and found the way Mr Allan coached me through the treatment particularly helpful. I was at work the next day and have not looked back.     LASIK at Moorfields was the best thing I ever did! Obviously I had concerns about the procedure however it was explained at length by Bruce at my initial consultation, and leading up the surgery Angelique was available at the end of the phone to answer any questions and reassure any fears I had. The actual procedure wasn't half as bad as I had imagined and I felt at ease with all the staff on the day. I felt reassured throughout the procedure and was amazed how quickly it was over.
