I attended bilaterial LASIK eye surgery at the Harley Street Laser Eye Clinic on 3rd October, to correct my short-sightedness. What made me book up there was the fact that the initial consultation had been a reassuring experience, I felt that I could entrust my eyes to the surgeon and also I was well looked after by the staff there.

On the day I was understandably nervous, although I've heard nothing but positive stories from friends and colleagues who have already had this procedure performed, all at different clinics. Before the surgery I could only make out the big A on the eye-test chart. However, only minutes following surgery I was already able to read on a few more lines! It was also fantastic to learn the next day that I had achieved 20/25 vision and it was just the beginning.

At this point I'd like to mention that I did feel discomfort during the surgery (and also afterwards for about 4 hours, until I went out for pizza and ice-cream - highly recommended!) and the surgeon was rightly concerned with my right eye which was very red. One week later and following a strict regime of drops administration, my right eye is clearing up slowly but surely.

I'd also like to mention that although the distant vision has improved no end I have found the near-sight is blurry, especially in my left eye (which also feels sticky). I have since learned that this is normal - as the eyes heal, the blurriness will correct itself gradually. I wanted to raise these points as I feel that they will prepare other people for potential discomfort, who are thinking about having LASIK.

After all that's said and done, I wish I've had this done years ago as the benefits definitely outweigh the temporary discomfort. It's money well spent! And I give the clinic two thumbs up!
